     There are options that you can choose or set it between public and private for new media uses but it's only visual shown that it is private. Yes, most people have an account in some platform of social media but some desire uses social media with privacy because they don't want to share their lifestyle and thoughts with the whole world but I think it's only visual things that are private. As you are creating a social media account, you are already sharing your information such as your full name, phone number, your email address even more. Moreover, as you are web browsing in your phone or computer, it tracks your pathway and algorithms such as cookies that will record your searches. You can control settings into private but it can't be all private to own a social media account. As you take their advantages for your lifestyle and usage, the new media will gain data from you to improve their platform.
